Understanding the difference between In-Home Supportive Services and Home Health Services
HHS (Home Health Services)
Provides professional medical care services by licensed medical professionals including registered nurses, therapists, etc.
IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services)
Primarily provides daily living assistance by family members or trained assistants
Important Distinction
• Home Health Care: Medical/rehabilitation in nature, provided by licensed professionals, aimed at restoring, maintaining, or managing health. • Hospice: For terminal illnesses, focusing on symptom relief and quality of life rather than cure. • Home Care / Personal Care: Mainly assists with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, cooking, and cleaning, without medical/rehabilitation professional operations.
